Family Therapy can be beneficial on its own or in conjunction with Individual or Play Therapy. Family Therapy focuses on the dynamics of a family and how the members of the family interact with each other. We often use components of Familial Play Therapy when working with families, depending on each family's unique needs. A typical Family Therapy session might include an art project, creating a sand tray, role playing or putting on a family puppet show. In other words, the goal is not to sit around in a circle and play the blame game! Through Family Therapy, many families learn how individual actions can cause a chain effect of emotions and how everyone's actions work together to create the family dynamic. Improving communication and raising an awareness of others' feelings is an important part of the Family Therapy process.
